"It is difficult to speak adequately, or justly, of London. It is not a pleasant place; it is not agreeable, or easy, or exempt from reproach. It is only magnificent."
Haha! My vicar gave a sermon once arguing that Judas was the most misunderstood and unfairly vilified person in the Bible for the exact reasons you just pointed out. Of course he was C of E... which is as close to atheism as you can get and still call it a religion. ;-)
Husband's point of view exactly - not that we are religious, but he feels any church that came into existence so some horny guy (even one who was a king) could have a divorce ain't worth following.
And I suggest you look up somegraybloke on youtube - I subscribe to his vids so I don't miss any - they are excellent.
I'll do that! I've seen one other video from him (it had to do with gym membership from memory). I didn't realise it was part of a series. Very funny so I'm going to have to check out the rest of his stuff!
As to your hubby's view on our old horny king... it's funny, with the C of E confirmation classes (or 'indoctrination classes' as we liked to call them) they made such an emphasis on the philosophy of the Reformation in Europe... yet very little mention of why dear old Henry really wanted his own church! On the other hand I have friends who were taught at Catholic schools in Australia who were never told about the broader reasons of the Reformation. To them all Protestantism came about because Henry wanted to shag a new chickie-babe.
I should have been more specific too. When I say vicar I meant former vicar. Both because I'm now a complete atheist (as opposed to a C of E atheist) and because the poor old bugger has passed away now. A sad loss it was too. If all religious types were like him the world would be a better place. One of his best sermons involved him listing all the stuff in the Bible that would see us all burn in Hell. Then at the end of this ridiculously long list he pointed out that really it was up to God to figure out whether we deserved Hell or not and not up to us at all so we should stop judging anyone for being gay, atheist, promiscuous etc. He was a good man!
Loved this - it's got to be my favorite graybloke vid so far... Didn't know they were all being published by the same person - just thought you were randomly finding them as various people posted them...very cool - I'll have to subscribe as well! :-)
BTW - just curious - can one of you tell me what "C of E" stands for? Thanks!

And C of E means Church of England, rather than Roman Catholicism, commonly known as R.C, or arsy.
I am a Catholic, OK, so I can make stupid jokes about my arsy church.
